According to Porsche, These Are The Best-Sounding Porsches Ever

- in Cars

Porsche makes cars that drive phenomenally well. Additionally, they sound pretty awesome as well.

Throughout its history, Porsche has been recognized to put out a few top-sounding cars. The unique horizontally-opposed engine layout and motorsports-derived technology used in many road Porsches produce delightful exhaust notes that make any enthusiast’s ears perk up.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Porsche has released a video featuring five of the most iconic Porsche sounds and we can’t imagine how difficult it was for the German automaker to choose just five. But weirdly, only two of them are flat-sixes.

Located in Porsche’s development center in Germany, high-tech microphones have measured the electrifying sounds as the roaring engines are let loose. Porsche went to all the trouble of wheeling each of these cars from its jaw-dropping museum into a sound studio with a rolling road, and then only barely blip the throttle for the microphone.

Porsche Carrera GT
Kicking off the list are a couple of classic models, the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 and the 1953 Porsche 550 Spyder. The other selected engine sounds included 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 2013 Porsche 918 Spyder and the hardcore, 5.7-liter V10 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.
