Here’s proof that all wheel drive cars don’t automatically turn your everyday driver into a real life version of Top Gear‘s Stig.

Recently a car enthusiast took his 2004 Subaru Forester XT out on a laid back cruise in the mountain passes outside of Los Angeles with some of his friends. The twisting and turning road they chose for that day’s stint didn’t pose much of a challenge for even the newest of drivers. Things were going well, the windows were down, dash cams recording, and the sweet sounds of turbocharged exhaust were echoing off of the mountains.
As the group came out of turn a series tunnels came into view and the lead driver just had to drop the hammer and send the tone of his Forester’s exhaust bouncing off the walls inside the tunnel.
The first tunnel was great and the second looked to be even better until about half way through when a blinding light blocked the driver’s view.
Luckily for the driver, the car landed on a rock wall that was part of a drainage pipe that went through the mountain. It was the only horizontally level piece on an extremely steep sloped hill. If he spun off a few feet before or after, probably he’d be dead.
The driver lived but sadly his Subaru Forester XT did not.
