Driver Crashes $400k 1924 Bugatti, Walks Away and Has a Beer…Cheers!

A racing driver who crashed his $400k Bugatti T13 classic racing car walked away from the prang – and had a beer. Well ladies and gentlemen drivers, this supposed to serve as a lesson on how to act when crashing your car with only material damage.

We’ll have to assume that most people would check to see if they’re okay first, and then start pulling their hair upon looking at the damage they caused to such a rare automobile.

Bugatti enthusiast and owner of a T13 Edmund Burgess, 56, did the first thing, but once he made sure that he was fine in health, he headed straight to the bar for a refreshing pint of beer. Burgess was competing in the Prescott Speed Hill Climb in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, when the brakes on his 1924 classic Bugatti racing car failed.

“It happened very suddenly. I was approaching a hairpin bend and I was going a little faster than usual, maybe 30mph, when I tried to brake,” Burgess was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“Before I knew it, I’d lost control and the car toppled over. When I saw how damaged the car was, I was amazed I could pull myself out and walk away. I was very lucky. My helmet must have hit the barrier, but otherwise I was OK. I decided to sit the rest of the event out in the bar with a beer. I’m irritated more than anything because it means I can’t compete again until this one is repaired.”
