If you aren’t familiar with the Discovery Channel show, it ran from 2002 to 2006 and was very influential in the automotive hobby. Not only was the show wildly popular, but it also helped cement host Jesse James as an icon in the industry and spawned a ton of merchandise sales as well.

If you haven’t seen it, most of the episodes can be found on YouTube and they are pretty entertaining. Let’s check out more of this awesome rat!

One of the cool things about this build is the body is real steel and it sits on a “new” 1932 frame. To get the body attached to the frame, the frame had to be pinched. So the cross member of the frame was cut so that the body would slide on.

After the body was in place, the cross member was welded back to the frame. Additional cutting and welding also included lowering the window frame of the car.

The rear end is a Ford 9-inch with Currie axles. A Ron Davis radiator keeps the engine cool, and it rides on Coker DOT-approved drag slicks.

Here you can see the interior, which is very sparse. Part of the shows “rules” were the teams had very limited parts budgets to work with. It was perfect for building a rat rod where less is more! The engine is a modest factory-new Chevrolet Performance 350 backed by a TCI 3-speed automatic transmission.

You can see this car has a great look and was executed very well in a short amount of time. After filming the car was kept and driven by producer Thom Beers.
