The 2019 Ram 1500 is a whole new animal. It isn’t just a redesigned full-size pickup; it’s also a rethink for the truckmaker.
The 2019 Ram 1500 is a new truck from the frame up. Ram says this next generation half-ton truck is now the most refined, most capable, best riding, most high-tech, and most luxurious 1500 truck the company has ever made. –
The new Ram 1500 is longer and wider than the previous-gen. Cab length increases by about four inches, wheelbase by up to four inches (depending on cab configuration), bed height increases by about 1.5 inches, and overall vehicle width increases by half an inch.
Underneath all that new bodywork is a huge amount of engineering. Despite growing in size, the pickup actually loses weight (225 pounds) while gaining a much heavier-duty frame. The new frame is made of 98 percent high-strength steel, making it stronger than ever, improving payload capability to 2,300 pounds and towing to up to 12,750 lbs. –
The 2019 Ram 1500 will be available with multiple powertrain options, including the company’s ubiquitous 305-hp, 3.6-liter V6 engine and the 395-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V8. Both powertrains get a mild hybrid system utilizing a belt-drive motor generator unit with 48-volt battery pack to enable start/stop function, short-term torque assist, and regenerative brakes. More efficiency sounds great, but truck buyers are all about torque: The V6 delivers 269 lb.-ft., and the Hemi V8 offers 410 lb.-ft.
This Ram pickup can be defined by both its capability and its sophistication. There are bold new interior themes and extensive use of genuine wood, metal and leather throughout. Truck owners are demanding the best technology and the all-new Ram 1500 delivers, with the largest available 12-inch touchscreen media center, SiriusXM new 360L on-demand satellite radio, the most powerful audio system in its segment from Harman Kardon – with 900-watt amplifier and 19 speakers and advanced in-vehicle connected services, including a 4G WiFi hotspot.
The truck also will come with two three-pronged 115-volt plugs. Driver-assistance options include parking assistance, lane departure warning and mitigation, as well as trailer sway damping control. The Ram 1500 stands out as the benchmark in a very competitive segment.
The 2019 Ram 1500 will become available in the United States and Canada in the second quarter of 2018 and has entered production at FCA’s Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan.
