Masterminded by Jeff Bloch, this VW is all sorts of ridiculous.
This is the Trippy Tippy Hippy Van and it’s the latest crazy race car creation by Maryland police officer and mechanic Jeff Bloch AKA Speedycop, and as you can see, it’s a Volkswagen van tipped on its side. To make it, the van was mounted on top of another vehicle, a 1998 VW Rabbit chassis with a 1.8-liter 16-valve GTI engine. He and his team known as The Gang Of Outlaws, spent over 1000 hours in just five weeks to get the vehicle ready for its race debut.–
The endurance racing series “24 Hours Of LeMons” is the greatest racing parody in existence. If by some chance you haven’t heard of this not-ready-for-primetime racing league, it’s an endurance race for those on an extremely limited racing budget, as in a $500 maximum allowance for the car (not counting tires, brakes, and other life-essential safety gear). However, a ton of labor and love have gone into these vehicles making them truly priceless cars.
On its race debut the van managed 224 laps around a two-mile road course and I can only imagine what the other drivers where thinking as they passed this crazy contraption on the track.
Peace, brother.
